Infrastructure Monitoring
Frugal Computing employs several Open Source packages to provide system and network management. These packages are deployed in an integrated manner to cover all requirements for system availability monitoring.
Some of the software utilized:
- Nagios provides a key capability for monitoring server availability and capacity. This package will provide customized alerts based on CPU utilization, disk space, and network response.
- MRTG is the accepted standard for network availablily and bandwidth monitoring. MRTG provides real-time statistics with regard to router/switch utilization and port bandwidth utilization.
Here are some of the system parameters that can be monitored:
- Data Center Temperature and Humidity
- Water Detection
- AC and DC Voltage Detection
- UPS Power Source Detection
- Server - Memory, Hard Drive Usage, User Count, Web Site Status, Process Count, Network Reachability
- Router, Switch, or Intelligent Hub - CPU Utilization, Memory Utilization, Bandwidth utilization, Dropped Packets, Interface Errors
